Board Service: We realise that board service is one of the most valuable assets that the business community can offer non-profits. Under Akhtar Imam’s leadership and strategic guidance as elected Chairman of the board, Marie Stopes Bangladesh, an affiliate of Marie Stopes International, UK, has significantly expanded its operations in Bangladesh over a short span of time. It is now successfully working towards its mission of improving reproductive health all over Bangladesh. The parent entity, Marie Stopes International also regularly seeks his guidance and advice in legal and strategic issues. In the past he has also served in the boards of Singer Bangladesh Limited and PranGroup. Our Junior Partner, Reshad Imam, has recently been appointed as Independent Director of Phoenix Finance and Investments Limited, a leading investment company in Bangladesh. Rotary: As an avid Rotarian for over 30 years, Akhtar Imam has fought for various causes of national and global importance. In Bangladesh he spear-headed a movement to increase corporate involvement in HIV/AIDS prevention and promote awareness of human rights and ethical issues involving HIV/AIDS patients. He represented both, Rotary club and Marie Stopes in, among others, HIV/AIDS related regional and international seminars held in Kualalumpur and Melbourne. He was awarded the Paul Harris fellow in recognition of his contribution and service to the Rotary movement and the community;

Pro Bono: Rashna Imam takes the lead in all pro bono work that the firm does. We are registered with i-probono, a non-profit online network connecting civil society organisations and social businesses in need of legal assistance with lawyers who want to use their legal skills for the public good. She is co-counsel in a public interest litigation for provision of emergency medical services by the state to critical road accident victims. She regularly reviews and vets policies formulated by and agreements entered into by non-profits like Bangladesh Legal Aid Services Trust (BLAST).
