REPRESENTATIVE WORK

  • Advised Liaison Office of Visa in Bangladesh on the termination of an employee, in particular, on the procedure involved, notice period, severance package and associated risks and drafted the termination paperwork;
  • Advised British American Tobacco Bangladesh on workers’ Gratuity Fund and implications of certain provisions of the Labour Act, 2006 amended in 2013 relating to Workers Profit Participation Fund;
  • Advised Millennium Bangla Limited and Millennium Group of Companies, a leading player in the automobile industry of Bangladesh on various labour and employment law issues that arose during the Covid-19 pandemic including but not limited to the legal modes of severance of workers under the Labour Act, 2006;
  • Represented Chaldal Limited, the largest online grocery in Bangladesh before the Labour Court in a case filed by the Labour Inspector for alleged violation of the Labour Act, 2006 read with the Labour Rules 2015;
  • Advised the Bangladesh subsidiary of Japan Tobacco International on the definition of “wages” under the Labour Act, 2006 and enquiry before dismissal;
  • Successfully defended Biman Bangladesh Airlines (national flag carrier airline) in multiple writ petitions filed by over 1000 employees challenging the legality of Biman’s Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS); Biman had taken loan for settling pension/gratuity dues of its employees who embraced the scheme to the tune of Tk. 4.19 billion.
