The High Court has given the authorities three months to file a list of buildings deemed risky in capital Dhaka. Public works ministry, city development authority RAJUK and the fire service have ordered to submit on Nov 22.
The bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal gave the order on Tuesday after an initial hearing of a petition seeking order to demolish a six-storey building in Gulshan.
The building titled ‘Gulshan Shopping Centre’ was declared as risky in line the with the 2003 Fire Prevention Act. On Aug 9, one Md Hanif, executive director NGO Swadesh, filed a public interest litigation plea. On Tuesday, the court also issued a rule asking why an order will not be given to disconnect utilities like, power and gas to the building and to tear it down, petitioner’s counsel Rashna Imam told the media.
